The Design Process

Initial Consultation and Client Brief
The design process starts with a personal site visit that includes a free initial consultation. It is an opportunity for us to have a chat about what you require from your garden. It is also important for me to get a feel for the garden i.e. the genius loci. I will then follow the consultation up with a written client brief and a quote detailing my design fee.

Survey and Layout Plans
The next step is to carry out the site survey. The resulting survey plan will enable me to produce draft layout plans that we can discuss at a further meeting.

Final Design Plans
Once the design has been agreed, I develop the design into a detailed masterplan. This is a scaled plan that includes construction and layout details. In addition, I produce an itemised job specification for the contractor, who will cost each element individually.

Planting Plans
A good planting plan is the key to a beautiful garden. By discussing your preferred planting styles and colour schemes with you, I can then advise on successional planting and year-round interest in the garden. This is then developed into an attractive, customised planting plan. If you wish, I can also source, order and arrange delivery of the plants.

Construction and Planting Out
I have worked with a reputable landscape contractor for many years, and he would be happy to price the project for you. Initially, he will make a visit to your garden in order to assess the project, and he will then quote for the work involved. The quote is based on his site visit, the final design plan and the itemised job specification. The contract for the build will be between you and the contractor. I will liaise with the contractor throughout the build. Finally, I can set out the plants ready for the contractor to plant out.

Project Management
I am also able to offer a Project Management Service. Please let me know if you wish to discuss this in depth, so that time can be allowed to discuss it during the initial consultation.
